Redistricting amendment: How Richmond voted on Tuesday
Richmond City, Henrico County and Chesterfield County all supported a statewide redistricting initiative on Tuesday, leading the measure to a narrow 3-point victory statewide.
In Richmond City, just four of the city's voting precincts saw a majority vote against the measure, while the rest voted yes – in many cases by overwhelming margins.
This map shows how Richmond's voting precincts voted during in-person voting on Tuesday, April 21.
The new maps are still subject to challenges pending in front of the Supreme Court of Virginia.
If the redistricting is allowed to stand, the Richmond area will be split into three congressional districts.
This map shows the new congressional districts that will be in play starting with this November's election.
Jennifer McClellan, who has represented the area, would move into District 4, which encompasses Richmond City and areas to the south.
Republican Rob Wittman's District 1 has been redrawn to extend up to liberal-leaning Northern Virginia, dramatically reducing his chances of winning re-election.
And Western Henrico and large portions of Chesterfield are moved into a district that extends west to Lynchburg.
"I'm encouraged by the high turnout across our Commonwealth, and look forward to running in the new Fourth Congressional District and representing every corner of it in Congress," McClellan, who had supported the initiative, said in a statement.
