Henrico fireworks cut short after youth fight disrupts festivities
Several fights among juveniles cut short a fireworks celebration in Henrico's Dorey Park on Friday night.
The July 3 event was first disrupted when a group of juveniles were fighting inside the park, causing organizers to begin the fireworks show earlier than anticipated.
But as the fireworks began, a second, larger fight broke out, causing organizers to end the show entirely.
One juvenile was taken into custody and charged with underage possession of a firearm, according to 8News.
“Henrico continues to encourage parents to accompany their children at these family-friendly events,” Henrico wrote in a statement to the station. “Everyone plays a role in keeping our parks safe and enjoyable.”
Saturday's event was canceled midday on Saturday as forecasts called for an increasing chance of evening thunderstorms.
