Sunday Bagel is the latest entrant in Richmond's bagel wars
Richmond, you may have heard, is a bagel town now.
The latest entrant to the party is Sunday Bagel, a popular pop-up that just opened a brick-and-mortar location at 210 W. Marshall St. in Jackson Ward.
The Richmonder paid a visit to see what all the fuss was about.
Are they good?
Absolutely. The shop continuously bakes its bagels throughout the morning, so customers are always getting a fresh bagel.
They're crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside, and quite hefty.
During our Monday visit, the everything bagels were generously coated in seasoning on both sides.
The whipped cream cheese hit the spot, and the "pickled pepper" variety was an office hit.
Are they expensive?
Absolutely. Quality comes at a price. Sunday Bagel sells a bagel with cream cheese for $6, though it doesn't upcharge for specialty bagels or cream cheeses. Bulk orders come with a discount.

Are they open on Sundays?
Absolutely. Just don't show up on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The shop is owned by husband-and-wife team Jesse and Julie Roberts.
What's the verdict?
The Richmonder crew unanimously agreed it would return. For me, the experience was reminiscent of the red-hot PopUp Bagels chain, which is growing with freshly cooked bagels dipped in specialty cream cheeses.
Sunday Bagel also serves sandwiches at lunch, and coffee from the Recluse Roasting Project, as well as rotating specials, which it will post to its social media pages.
