New Fan hotel opens bookings with a price point near the top of the market
Ash Hotels plans to open its long-awaited Shenandoah Mansions hotel on New Year’s Eve, wrapping up a project that began in 2021.
The hotel, located on Allen Avenue just north of Monument Avenue, was initially slated to open two years ago, but delays included a lien by its former general contractor.
The building itself was formerly a senior living facility, and will be the first upscale hotel located directly in the Fan. Ash Hotels provided renderings of the interior to The Richmonder, including one of a planned restaurant from local celebrity chef Brittanny Anderson.
An all-day concept called Shenandoah Cafe will open with the hotel, and her signature restaurant, Daughter, is slated to open a couple months later.

The hotel will have 73 rooms over its six floors, with suites paying tribute to historic Richmonders.

In a press release, the hotel said that nightly rates will start at $290, which puts it firmly in the upper tier of Richmond hotels, alongside The Jefferson.
A Richmonder survey of hotel prices shortly after opening showed that rooms at Shenandoah Mansions will start at a slight discount – though those dates also coincide with the General Assembly, which raises rates near the Capitol.

According to the hotel: “The building’s upstairs will feature bright and airy guestrooms and suites with four-poster beds in gemstone colors and block-printed quilts, a nod to the folk artists still practicing in the Shenandoah Valley. On the first floor, a slate of common spaces includes a curated gift shop, intimate exterior garden and three food and beverage concepts.”
