Where you get your news matters
Last week, longtime TV news anchor Ted Koppel visited the Richmond Forum for its 40th anniversary program. He was asked about the state of the media.
"There are a lot of people who are just putting out partisan crap," Koppel said. "And it’s dangerous. It’s undermining who we have been, who we need to be, and what this country needs to be."
Koppel is only the latest to sound the alarm. Local news, so crucial to the fabric of our communities for so many years, is disappearing before our eyes.
Social media is fueling polarization. Corruption is on the rise, making it more expensive for governments to operate.
We believe we're charting a path forward. The Richmonder operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, answering to its community instead of out-of-state investors.
- We don't "paywall" our news, so everyone can be a part of the conversation.
- We'll never endorse political candidates or causes.
- We're funded by the community, and contributions are tax-deductible.
As we wrap up our first full year of operation, we're thrilled to have the endorsement of three nationally respected groups, who have agreed to match $18,000 in reader donations this holiday season.
Will you help us reach our goal? Make a one-time donation to The Richmonder here, or join us as a member for $9.99 a month.
100% of your contribution will go towards local news. We spotlight the best of our community, while keeping a watchful eye on those in power.
Thanks for joining the more than 1,200 Richmonders who believe in the power of local news.
