Update: Tax bills have now been sent to mortgage lenders

After initially sending property tax bills directly to about 33,000 residents, instead of the lenders who typically pay those bills, the city said Friday it has now notified lenders of their obligations.

"For taxpayers whose lenders typically pay the bill on their behalf, no further action is required," the city said in a release. "Taxpayers who directly pay their real estate tax bill should do so before June 16."

If a homeowner mistakenly paid the bill, they can request a refund through the city's 311 system, either by phone or online.

The city added that Mayor Danny Avula has committed to bringing in an external expert to review the Department of Finance’s processes and procedures.
