State grant to fund HVAC, roof repairs at two Richmond high schools
Two Richmond high schools will receive state funding that will help make much-needed repairs.
Armstrong High will receive $240,000 toward HVAC repairs, a project costing a total of $1.2 million.
Richmond Community High will receive $340,000 for a new roof, which costs $1.7 million to replace.
Both schools were among the 22 projects totalling over $88 million that the Virginia Board of Education approved funding for last week through its School Construction Assistance Program – an annually awarded grant.
The needed roof replacement and HVAC repairs were outlined along with 16 other ongoing or planned projects identified from the past and current school year.
The grant helps the division as it struggles with funding the many facility issues within Richmond Public Schools on an annual $2.5 million budget. The division plans to advocate for more state funding for its buildings in the upcoming General Assembly session.
