In Virginia, happy hour must end at 9 p.m. Some Richmond restaurants want to change that.
Since 1985, happy hour in Virginia has had a hard cutoff of 9 p.m.
A number of Richmond businesses are joining a push by the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging and Travel Association to change the state’s ABC rules to allow establishments to extend happy hour to as late as midnight.
“You see folks who want to dine later, or you see folks who are getting out of work at a late hour and would still like to have a drink affordably,” an industry representative said. Read more here.

Richmond food pantries strain to meet demand as SNAP funding halts
Local pantries like the one at Broad Rock Baptist Church are seeing a greater demand in visitors, while receiving a limited supply of food.
“It’s light!” said one volunteer at the church Tuesday morning, pointing to the normally full table that was now holding sparsely laid out produce like eggs, juice and vegetables. “This week we didn’t get a lot. And it may be the beginning.”

Scott's Addition will get a freestanding ER, joining a nationwide trend
Henrico Doctors’ Hospital is building a new 24-hour freestanding emergency room in Scott’s Addition, the first full-service emergency health care facility in a neighborhood known for nightlife and new construction.
However, one expert cautioned that patients can confuse the facilities with urgent care centers, which are much cheaper. Read more here.

Police issue charges stemming from 'car club' night of disruptions
Richmond police have charged four individuals with crimes after investigating disruptions that occurred across the city on Saturday night, October 18.
More than 200 individuals gathered on two of the city's busiest intersections, shutting down traffic while cars did burnouts in front of the spectators.
