Healthy and happy

Very few people enter print journalism with visions of fame and fortune.

That's OK. We like the work we do, and we're driven to do it well.

But as prices rise and local news salaries stagnate, a disturbing trend has emerged: Young people are entering the business, then leaving it a few years later for better-paying work.

🙋
We don't think local news should be an entry-level position. Without institutional knowledge and experience, key questions will go unasked and major stories will be overlooked.

That's why when we started The Richmonder, I wanted to make sure our reporters were taken care of.

Nobody here makes six figures, but we do offer company-paid health insurance. It's not cheap — this month's bill was $6,710 to cover everyone — but we think it's important.

🎄
We also offer generous time-off policies, helping us to attract (and keep) top talent.
