Groups will match $18k in reader donations
Happy first day of November!
As you know, The Richmonder had a great first year. We wrote impactful stories about how the city is spending your money, and the efforts our leaders are making towards more transparency. We’ve highlighted good news and good people who are making us proud.
And the community has responded, letting us know through their wallets that we’re doing local news right. In one year, more than 1,200 of your neighbors have supported us financially. And we couldn’t be more grateful and proud.
But we want to add more reporters and more stories, so we can serve our community better. This growth requires more funding.
Here’s the exciting part.
The Institute for Nonprofit News has offered to match new donations of as much as $1,000 between now and the end of the year.
The Carnegie Corporation of New York Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation have also offered matches to support our reporting on education. In total, these groups are offering $18,000 in matching funds.
Like most nonprofits, the bulk of our funding arrives in the final months of the year, and these generous matches set us up to keep our newsroom strong and ready for whatever 2026 brings.

On behalf of the whole team, thank you for your support of The Richmonder.
