Electrical fire closes Carytown post office temporarily

The Stewart Station Post Office, located on Floyd Avenue near Carytown, is closed indefinitely after an electrical fire broke out last week.

The building has had a number of issues in recent months, including staffing shortages that left it closed for periods of time throughout the spring.

"We thank customers for their understanding as we work with the property owner to reopen the Stewart Post Office," a USPS spokesperson said. "We are also appreciative of quick response from the Richmond Fire Department."

Contractors have begun to evaluate damage and begin the repair process, but no timetable is available for the building's return.

Post Office boxes have been temporarily transferred to the Westhampton Post Office in the West End.
