City offices, trash collection will close Monday for International Women's Day
The City of Richmond will give its workers a paid day off on Monday, March 9 in observance of International Women's Day.
The holiday will be observed nationally on Sunday, March 8. This is the fourth consecutive year that city workers have received the day off as one of their 14 paid holidays.
Richmond Public Schools will remain in session.
Closures to be aware of:
- The DPU call center will be closed.
- Parks and Recreation offices and community centers are closed.
- Public libraries are closed.
- RVA311 will be closed, but mobile app access will remain available.
- Trash collection will not take place, but recycling, which is run by Central Virginia Waste Management, will take place as scheduled.
The holiday was first put in place by former Mayor Levar Stoney. At the time, Richmond was the first locality nationally to offer it as a paid holiday.
