Two Richmond high schools will receive state funding that will help make much-needed repairs.

Armstrong High will receive $240,000 toward HVAC repairs, a project costing a total of $1.2 million.

Richmond Community High will receive $340,000 for a new roof, which costs $1.7 million to replace.

Both schools were among the 22 projects totalling over $88 million that the Virginia Board of Education approved funding for last week through its [School Construction Assistance Program](https://www.doe.virginia.gov/programs-services/school-operations-support-services/facility-construction-maintenance/school-construction-assistance-program) – an annually awarded grant.

The needed roof replacement and HVAC repairs were outlined along with [16 other ongoing or planned projects](https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/richmond/Board.nsf/files/DMPQMX6A0A79/$file/10072025%5FFacilitiesandVacantPropertyCommittee.pdf) identified from the past and current school year.

The grant helps the division as it struggles with funding the many facility issues within Richmond Public Schools on an annual $2.5 million budget. The division plans to advocate for more state funding for its buildings in the [upcoming General Assembly session](https://www.richmonder.org/avula-hopes-democratic-wins-will-bring-action-on-gun-violence-housing-affordability-rps-lays-out-its-priorities/).
