Richmond Public Schools has established “a secure alternate network accessible via Chromebooks," Superintendent Jason Kamras announced Monday morning.

The announcement follows a cybersecurity incident last week that [disrupted the divisions’ internet, phone services and other operating systems](https://www.richmonder.org/cybersecurity-incident-disrupts-richmond-public-schools-internet-phone-services/).

Teachers will receive a Chromebook this week allowing them to access RPS platforms, along with an HDMI cable that will enable staff to connect the laptops to Smartboards used in class.

Kamras added that the division is also working with a vendor to make school copiers accessible for printing, beginning with elementary schools. Over the weekend, Richmond Public Library offered school staff to use their printers for free.

RPS will be converting the “Professional Learning Day” occurring on Wednesday, Oct. 28 to a “School-Based Work Day” for teachers. Students will remain out of school that day.

The division will continue to offer free credit monitoring to staff, students and their families.
