Sub Rosa has been [written about nationally](https://www.eater.com/23519456/sub-rosa-virginia-bakery-croissant-pear-ricotta-caramel-wood-fire-oven) and [talked about locally](https://www.wtvr.com/2018/02/23/evrim-and-evin-dogu) for its traditional methods of baking, and has become a neighborhood institution since opening in 2012\.

The bakery also caught on fire [about a decade ago](https://rvanews.com/features/fire-at-sub-rosa-bakery/89222).

Fire officials arrived at about 6:45 a.m., and said everybody in the bakery and the second-floor apartments was able to escape safely, with no injuries reported.

According to the Richmond Fire Department, the fire started in the attic and was beginning to spread to the second-floor apartments when crews arrived and were able to contain it.
