Richmond High School for the Arts (formerly George Wythe) is closed to students this week after a faulty HVAC system triggered major flooding inside the school over the weekend.

Seniors at the school were scheduled to have their last day on Tuesday, and will proceed to graduation ceremonies as scheduled.

For other students, learning will take place online with synchronous instruction, meaning students will attend live virtual classes with their teachers.

An RPS spokesperson told The Richmonder that Clark Springs, a vacant school, has been made available for students and classes that need to meet in person for exams.

Students can pick up breakfast and lunch at Westover Hills Elementary at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – both meals will be available at both times.

A new school is under construction directly adjacent to the current school, with a scheduled move date of mid-September, about three weeks into the new school year.
