# Mayor-elect Danny Avula names transition team

With less than two months before he officially takes office on Jan. 1, new Richmond mayor Danny Avula named a transition team on Thursday.

From the campaign:

Reginald “Reggie” Gordon ([Richmond Memorial Health Foundation](https://rmhfoundation.org/)) and Katherine Whitney ([Warren Whitney](https://warrenwhitney.com/)) will serve as co-chairs of the transition. 

Dr. Thad Williamson ([University of Richmond](https://jepson.richmond.edu/faculty/bios/twillia9/)) will serve as director of the transition team.

Additionally, Sarah Carpenter, J.D., Taikein Cooper ([Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation](https://www.rpseducationfoundation.org/)), Ruth Morrison ([Richmond & Henrico Health District](http://rhhd.gov/)), and Lawson Wijesooriya (Campaign Manager) will serve on the Transition Executive Committee.

“I am grateful to these talented and experienced Richmonders for their willingness to lend their time and energy to leading this transition process," Avula wrote. "We now start the work of building a Richmond where everyone’s rights are protected and where no one gets left behind. I appreciate Mayor Stoney and his administration’s cooperation in ensuring a smooth transition over the next two months.”

Avula and Stoney held a joint press conference on Wednesday where the mayor pledged his support to the transition.
