Local news is more than just facts and information. It's an opportunity for us as a community to connect, to discuss the issues of the day, and to celebrate the things that make Richmond special.

To do local news right is also expensive.

Take this week's visit by a group of Buddhist monks on their Walk for Peace. Dozens of articles were written sharing the what, when and where. That information is easy to obtain and easy to disseminate.

🚶‍♂️

We sent a reporter down south to follow the monks ahead of their arrival. [****That story**](https://www.richmonder.org/the-walk-for-peace-enters-richmond-on-monday-this-is-what-its-like-to-walk-with-the-monks/) did more than convey information – it got to the heart of **why* we cared so much.

We spent more than $1,000 reporting that story, and gave you insights and observations you couldn't find anywhere else.

We were in other places, too. We represented you at the [**Richmond School Board**](https://www.richmonder.org/the-math-is-not-mathing-frustrations-persist-around-rps-budget/) and were on the ground at the [**Hanover Board of Supervisors**](https://www.richmonder.org/hanover-board-asks-ice-to-reconsider-proposed-facility/). We told the story of [**Bill Martin's impact**](https://www.richmonder.org/bill-martin-was-known-as-the-valentines-leader-he-was-also-a-quiet-champion-for-richmonds-lgbtq-community/) on Richmond in a way that went deeper than previous coverage.

We invest in these stories because it aligns with our mission, and contributes to elevating the conversation, something we all badly need.

**Will you support us in that mission?** Memberships start at [**$9.99 a month**](https://donate.stripe.com/aEU8xm7EWefggx29AP) or [**$115 a year**](https://www.richmonder.org/#/portal/signup/6676ee3be340d1000102514b/yearly). We are proud of the 1,300+ members who support our work, but to sustain it, we need more.

If you're not ready to commit, we always welcome and appreciate a [**one-time, tax-deductible donation**](https://richmonder.org/donate) of any amount.

Thank you for supporting The Richmonder as we go the extra mile to keep you connected.
