# Five injured in overnight shooting at Virginia State University

Five individuals were shot outside Virginia State University dormitories at 1:28 a.m. Saturday, with four people sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and one in critical condition.

Of the victims, police said only one is a student at the school.

The suspect, 19-year-old Camron Harris of Henrico, was arrested on VSU’s campus at 4 p.m. Saturday. He also isn’t a student at the university. 

He’s currently being held in Chesterfield County Jail and facing eight felony warrants. 

This was the school’s move-in weekend, with classes set to begin on Monday. On Friday, the school had a pinning ceremony with former [NFL star Cam Newton](https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/chesterfield-county/vsu-pinning-ceremony-cam-newton-aug-14-2026) as a guest speaker.
