After playing to sold-out crowds last year at The Diamond, "Banana Ball" baseball will be one of the first acts to play the new CarMax Park when it opens next spring.

The league, spun off from the popularity of the Savannah Bananas baseball team, now features six teams which tour the country, mixing baseball and entertainment.

Richmond will host the Firefighters and the Indianapolis Clowns on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2\. Fans can [sign up for the opportunity to purchase tickets](https://www.bananaballticketlottery.fansfirsttickets.com/) now.

The Indianapolis Clowns are a new team this year, created in tribute to a pioneering Negro Leagues team. Bananas founder Jesse Cole said he was inspired by a tour of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.

Museum President Bob Kendrick said he appreciated the tribute in a press release.

“The rebirth of the Indianapolis Clowns is an exciting and historically relevant tribute to the team that was at the forefront of combining baseball and entertainment,” said Kendrick.

“Our partnership is a tremendous opportunity, to not only entertain, but educate fans about the rich history of the Negro Leagues while paying homage to the team that helped influence Banana Ball.”

CarMax Park is scheduled to open on April 7, when the Richmond Flying Squirrels play their first home game.
