The Virginians were a minor-league team, but played the final month of the season in the American Association (which later merged into the National League) after a team went bankrupt. The school's principal said students have long desired a soccer field, leading to the proposal. HCWC said the step was taken to ease a cash crunch that raises “substantial doubt about the Company’s ability to continue as a going concern” for the next 12 months. Chesterfield passed a bond referendum in 2022, but officials said many of those projects couldn't be completed due to rapid inflation.
