### Baseball and soccer fields proposed at Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary after tennis facility falls through

Nearly a year after a proposal to build a $15-$20 million indoor tennis facility behind Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary died from a lack of community support, a different group is now stepping in to propose building a soccer field and baseball field in what would’ve been the facility’s place.

⚾

Richmond Little League is offering to build out the fields in exchange for their use.

The school's principal said students have long desired a soccer field, leading to the proposal. [**Read more here.**](https://www.richmonder.org/baseball-and-soccer-fields-proposed-at-lois-harrison-jones-elementary-after-tennis-facility-falls-through/)

### Ellwood Thompson's parent company acquired by data center owner

The Florida-based company that bought Ellwood Thompson’s three years ago, Healthy Choices Wellness Corp., is being acquired by a private equity developer of data centers.

HCWC said the step was taken to ease a cash crunch that raises “substantial doubt about the Company’s ability to continue as a going concern” for the next 12 months. ### Inflation, deferred maintenance contribute to $850 million in needs, Chesterfield school officials say

As Chesterfield voters prepare to weigh in this November on whether to raise the sales tax 1% to fund school construction, the county’s school system unveiled a study that said it needs an estimated $850 million over the next decade to address maintenance across its campuses.

Chesterfield passed a bond referendum in 2022, but officials said many of those projects couldn't be completed due to rapid inflation. [**Read more here.**](https://www.richmonder.org/inflation-deferred-maintenance-contribute-to-850-million-in-needs-chesterfield-school-officials-say/)
